And just like that…it’s August.
This week my grandchildren started the new school year. My mind is programmed to process a new school year as Fall, so a part of me believes I see the leaves are beginning to turn and fall!🍂
I view the start of each month as a new beginning. I set aside a day and time to review the past month to improve or learn from what did not go well. I used to wait until the year's end, but by reviewing monthly I can see what I did well, and quickly course correct when I fall short.
As a person who had a traumatic childhood, one of my trauma responses was to numb out and become unconscious to things going on both with, and around me.
It's healing for me when I see I'm paying attention to myself; I'm present. Those times when I do fall back into my old patterns are now another opportunity to love on myself a little more.
It's important not to see undone plans as a failure. It's important to learn from both your successes and mistakes. It's the perfect time to ask yourself, 'What did or didn't work well last month?' It's an opportunity to make adjustments to improve your approach this time around. And who doesn't appreciate another chance? This season I've been working a lot around the house and garden. Having always lived in an apartment with minimal upkeep, I am still stunned at the amount of maintenance required to keep up with a home. Each week, month, or season requires attention to the little things so that they don't become big expensive things! When I was younger it seemed my parents were always going to the doctor for one thing or another. Now that I'm older, I'm the same way! I realize there is always something that needs attending to with the body. Whether it's a wellness checkup, dental exam, annual mammogram, etc.
While I was pulling some stray weeds I could have sworn I'd just pulled earlier this week, I realized our bodies, like our homes, needs consistent maintenance.
Prioritizing your health should be paramount. As we transition from Summer into the Fall season, take a look at what needs attention in your life:
Are you on track with your physicals? If you need to, schedule any appointments NOW!
How about your fitness regimen? Are you getting in regular exercise at least 3x a week?
Are you maintaining a balanced diet? Consistent good choices each time you eat will change your life.
How's your fiscal hygiene? Pay attention to our income and outgo. Get professional help if you need it.
Mental well-being matters. If you've been meaning to follow up with a therapist, counselor, or spiritual coach, do it now.
Is there a friend or family member you've been meaning to contact? Don't text, pick up the phone and call. Nothing beats the sound of a loved one's voice!
How's your spiritual health? Don't neglect it, it's the foundation for the other aspects of your life. [Romans 12:1-2]
I encourage you to approach this new month with a commitment to be and do your best for yourself. Set clear, realistic goals, including making relaxation a daily priority.
Each day is a new opportunity to grow and evolve. Embracing change, learning from your experiences, and consistency, will help you show up better for yourself.
And whatever you do, don't forget to drink your water and mind your own business!
Here's to making the most of this fresh start and creating a positive, glorious month ahead!
Don't let anyone take your joy, and remember, all you need you already possess.
