The Rhythm of Life

Updated: Jan 29, 2023

Happy New Year!

We made it! The older I get, the more I appreciate each passing year.

Some of us squeaked through, and not without a cost, but we're here.

A special welcome to all the new subscribers who joined these past few months!

I am back from my season of pause. What a joy that while I was gone, so many new people entered this space.

I’m returning to this blog after a few months of deep rest, and deep healing replenished for the coming year. 2022 was a year of reflection for me. I started out full speed ahead, ready to start DO-ing, but I quickly realized that what I needed was to get off the hamster wheel, stop trying to keep up, and start BE-ing.

I needed to prioritize my health and my relationships–with God, myself, and others. I especially felt led to focus on my three grandchildren. I set a goal that the oldest two would be reading by Christmas. I am happy to say they are now enthusiastic readers! Time well spent.

And, while I had become so accustomed to making sure everyone else is cared for first, I consciously began moving myself to the top of the list.

The primary way I did that was by making 2022 the year of ritual. Throughout the year, I consistently followed my 7 rituals for self-healing.

In addition, I’ve become diligent about living in accordance with the rhythms of time and nature’s seasons:

Nature’s Way: Time Alchemy and Seasonal Living

Traditional Time Management is productivity-based and time-bound. It's about blocking time and living within those boundaries. While it's good to feel productive, those time rules often make us feel bad when we don’t accomplish our to-do lists or meet our daily goals. We often view time as an adversary. We’ve got to ‘beat the clock’, and can’t let it get away, Yes, it’s good to have goals, habits, and routines. However, there is another way to view time and still achieve the results you want.

Time Alchemy is a holistic approach to time. We know that time is our most important, and precious resource because it’s our lives. Good health and lots of money mean nothing without time to enjoy it. Like holistic health, holistic time management, or alchemy as I call it, guides you to look at your time and life not as parts, but as whole/wholistically: body, mind, and spirit. No longer fragmented with each minute slotted for family, work, rest, and play. Holistic time alchemy helps you view and spend your time in a way that allows you to consider the health of every aspect of your life.

Seasonal Living

Like Time Alchemy, living seasonally means consciously and intentionally flowing with nature instead of resisting the changes within and around us. This allows for personal, professional, and spiritual development and puts you on the path to wholeness.

Seasonal living is way more than just “eating watermelon in the summer and wearing warm clothes in winter.” It’s living according to the rhythm of each season. The energy and features of every season are different, yet harmonious. It is the art of aligning with and embracing the cycles of nature, rather than resisting them.

Each season bears its own gifts, rituals, and instructions for living well

Following the cyclical changes in nature can help us do just that. Practice the wisdom of the seasons:

  • The energy of Spring is creative action, development, and planning

  • The energy of Summer is playing, rejoicing, and enjoying.

  • The energy of Fall is gathering, focusing, turning inward, and letting go

  • The energy of Winter is rest, reflection, and preparation

Use this information to set your actions and intentions. While the world says January 1 is the time to get a running start on all your goals and visions, the season calls for rest, reflection and preparation. Plan accordingly. When winter comes, I'm like a bear. I hunker down, cook soups and stews, stay close to home, etc.

That's it for now, wanted to drop you a quick hello and let you know I am thinking of you. Again, welcome to new followers. A huge thank you to all of you who have supported me in ways both large and small.

I pray that all be well with you and those you love this year. "That you prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers."*

Throughout 2023 I will be sharing more about time alchemy, seasons, and the rhythms of life. Stay tuned. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, or just want to say hello, please comment below.
